Contrary to urban myth, root canal therapy is a conservative dental procedure that can often be completed in one visit with Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Schlossberg, or Dr. Klotz. Modern technology and sedation dentistry have revolutionized dentistry, including root canals. You will enjoy complete peace of mind and body, resting comfortably while an experienced sedation dentist restores your oral health and relives your pain.
“Why do I need a root canal?”
If you were told that you need a root canal, it would be wise to seek a second opinion. Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Schlossberg, or Dr. Klotz will be happy to assess your damaged tooth and provide an accurate diagnosis. If root canal therapy is necessary, your tooth is internally damaged. Should you choose not to pursue root canal therapy, your tooth could become infected and require extraction. Pressure inside the tooth will cause an intense toothache. Left alone, the infection can become blood borne and lead to serious health problems.
“What is a root canal?”
During a root canal, the dentist will remove infected pulp from inside your tooth and replace it with a manmade substance. The pulp, also called the nerve, carries nutrients to and removes waste from a living tooth. After the pulp is removed, the tooth is no longer alive. However, a root canal will allow the tooth to remain in place, fully functional. This eliminates the need for a replacement tooth and preserves the integrity of the bite (how upper and lower teeth fit together).
“How on earth can a root canal be comfortable?”
Bethesda Sedation Denitstry dentists are members of Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. We offer four options for sedation dentistry. With IV, oral, nitrous oxide, or oral conscious sedation, you will feel relaxed and completely comfortable throughout your root canal procedure.
